Why is ANY melamine in baby formula acceptable?

The FDA has set standards for acceptable levels of melamine in baby formula. And guess what? It isn't zero. When it was being found in foreign-made formula, the FDA said there is no safe level. Now that it's been found in 90% of US formula, they have seemingly arbitrarily decided that a little plastic in formula is OK. With no new data.

Who is the FDA protecting? Formula makers? The dairy industry? How about looking out for the babies?

What's in it for you, Derek?

Derek, you said you only posted your success story because you're proud of your weight loss, which you achieved by eating basic low carb, ignoring the Kimkins plan details, and not participating at the website. You said you don't endorse or promote Kimkins.

Derek, this ad says otherwise. Did you consent to this? Are you getting a cut of the profits? Is it OK with you that the odds are statistically zero that they will achieve the results you did? That they'll be out $80? That their money went to support the site that is facing class action lawsuit for fraudulent marketing? That they will probably quit the plan because it's 'too strict' (nutritionally bankrupt) or they'll actually DO the diet and end up with symptoms like the people on the Kimkins Survivors? And you are OK with Heidi Diaz using you to get people to join. Did you know the Better Business Bureau gave Kimkins an F rating?

If you are really only in this to inspire others and show them what is possible, then why not tell your story at any number of free weight loss websites? Why be a cover model for Kimkins? Really, I do not get it. Is there something in it for you?

How are you spending Black Friday?

I hope not like this!

From The New York Daily News:
A worker died after being trampled and a woman miscarried when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island Wal-Mart Friday morning, witnesses said. The unidentified worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m. Additional reports from NY Newsday say the "34-year-old Wal-Mart worker died Friday morning after he was knocked to the ground after 'a throng of shoppers physically broke down the doors,' pushing their way into the store at the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, Nassau police said."

Unreal. Don't you just get down on PEOPLE sometimes?

I think the deals will keep coming and maybe even get better. Instead of shopping, I've spent all morning playing Wii Fit with my son, and smelling an awesome Yankee Candle - Eggnog scent.

Let's talk soup - give me your very best low carb recipe!

My bones are simmering and soon I'll have a couple of quarts of nutritious, rich stocky goodness. What I really crave is some great fashioned starchy turkey and wild rice or noodle soup, but I just know I can top those flavors and keep it low carb, too!

Tippy / Jeannie Got $erved

Tippy Toes posted recently about getting served in the Kimkins counter-suit. The counter-suit is basically targeted at anyone who ever disagreed with Heidi Diaz about anything as far as I can tell. It's ridiculous. As far as I can see, the only thing Heidi will get out of it is the glee at forcing people to pay the $300 filing fee. She won't have the last laugh, though.

Tippy didn't do anything to deserve to be sued. She was humiliatingly loyal to Heidi - on national television, even. When she finally realized how she was being used and how she was aiding a scam, she went off and quietly started her own private forum. No crime in that. People from Kimkins were welcomed, but they weren't required to LEAVE Kimkins to join, so how did that hurt Heidi Diaz or her business?

Heidi is just lashing out irrationally and it's going to cost her even more money in the end. Tippy, I'm sorry you had to pay that money. It's a better investment than the stock market, right? You're in good hands with John Tiedt!

Let the oil companies bail out the auto industry!

I have to say that I'm terrified of the big 3 all going under. For sure I blame the companies & unions for getting to where they are, although really who could have predicted that abruptly everyone would just STOP buying cars all at once? I also blame consumers for continuing to pay extortion prices for cars over the years. However, saying 'let 'em eat cake' is going to hurt the economy in so. many. ways! The researchers, designers, factory workers, lawyers, endless parts suppliers, rubber, plastic & metal suppliers, advertisers, sales people, charities, restaurants, tourism, schools, the arts, the stuff their taxes buy, and on and on and on! I don't know the answer, and clearly the congress that rams through $700billion bailouts without any idea if they will work or not don't have the answers either. How scary is that?

Love this post, especially this:

So the oil companies are once again boasting record profits and yet the
auto makers are asking for some government cheese. Does anyone else see
the irony here? So I’ve got a little trickle down theory of my own.
As long as Detroit continues to make cars for the Gas-Capades let the
oil companies bail them out. It’s a “robbing Peter to pay
Paul” kind of thing except in this case Peter and Paul seem to be
riding the short bus… and it’s not to save on gas.

Important Health Warning

Sorry, I don't know the source of this or I'd credit it. I got it by email.

I voted! Did you?

It's election day here in the US, and I think I speak for a lot of people around the world when I say - I'm so glad the campaigning is over!

Don't let the media deter you with talk about long lines, especially if you're not in an area that typically has a long wait. Despite what even our local media had to say, I literally did not wait in line to vote. I walked right in at 8am - peak time, so they say - and got my ballot. Apparently there was a line when the polls opened and it cleared right out even though we had a TON of stuff on the ballot. My husband and I were voters 101 and 102 for our precinct.

Election Humor

I don't know if this is true or not, but it made me laugh.

___________________________________________

The following is a funny and true story shared by KC Williams who teaches AP government at Santa Fe High School. In one of KC's classes, they were discussing the qualifications to be president of the United States. They are pretty simple: The candidate must be a natural born citizen and at least 35 years of age.

One girl in the class immediately started complaining about how unfair the requirement to be a natural born citizen was. In short, her opinion was that this requirement prevented many capable individuals from becoming president. KC and the class were just taking it in and letting her rant, but everyone's jaw hit the floor when she wrapped up her argument by stating, "What makes a natural born citizen any more qualified to lead this country than one born by c-section?"
